Social Media For Entrepreneurial Authors And I Will Get Even!

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

It actually bothered me more than being a victim of a big name marketer who used a new white collar crime against me last week to create his idea virus.

If you missed a new black hat marketing technique with media releases, than it might be best that you do NOT read the posts below as they do speak to the depravity of many online marketers todays.

And you better believe this person knew what he was doing!

I hated writing about it. (I will let you know later on this week how I plan on getting even. You might be surprised about what I am planning on doing–just a warning!)

But I hated this more!

When I was a Vice Principal, one of the things that I detested the most was the fact I had few opportunities to have any meaningful dialogue around my area of passion.

Are you trapped with few people to talk to about what you are really passionate about?

For me, it made going to school every day an incredibly lonely affair.

So what did I do about this?

I certainly could have done what most people do, and that is to become a whiner…a complainer…or even worst, a cynic.

Yuck!

Instead I did this.

I got even. Big time even.

(Getting even, if you do it right, is the most powerful way of generating the kind of action to kick your butt into gear by the way.)

I created a system to help you share you passion so that you can wake up feeling inspired each day.

The system is outlined in the new book, Author And Grow Rich.

And I created the first business authoring mentoring program which is centred on using real people just like you as case studies.

As a special thank you for your loyalty with Awakened, LLC…and as a way of saying thank you for putting up with the blog posts from last week around something really negative, I am gifting you a live $10K Platinum mentoring session recorded from a call with one of our clients, Ken McArthur.

Before you download the MP3 file, remember that your target market wants two important items from you.

They want your experiences. And they want your system of self reflection.

In other words they want you to share your passion with them.

That’s one of the keys that make Entrepreneurial Authoring different from any authoring program in the market place today.

Isn’t it time you took time to honestly reflect on where you are at in life.

Isn’t it time to be viewed differently–as someone how takes one’s passion seriously?

Isn’t it time to be a leader in a market place that wants your passion?

Download this MP3 recording and discover how social media can allow you to share your passion to a global audience.

To Your Legacy!

The Etymology Of Black Hat Marketing With Media Releases

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Thank you to all of you who have responded to my latest post re: unethical media releases.

Please, for all those who have emailed me directly, please use the blog. I really appreciate it.

I don’t intend to be negative and I certainly don’t want to sling mud. There is too much to be positive about and it is something that I have always strived to be–positive in all that I do, including my outlook on life!

Several people have referred to this unethical practice using media releases as a black hat marketing strategy and that is exactly what this is.

Before I share with you what I plan on doing, I want you to understand the following five point that separate the black hat marketers with the white hat entrepreneurs…

That means that we must define our terms first. Definition of terms is always crucial. Just like when we advertise that no one else is teaching *how to* create customized education, we mean just that. This not to take away all those who sell free reports (hundreds of entrepreneurs), or from those who have used customized free reports (Denis Waitley, Brian Tracy, Eben Pagan and Alex Mandossian have used them—very few others), but no one today *teaches* how to create them, let alone has created software to do this for you.

(By the way, we have been teaching the science of using assessment instruments in order to customize your content for the past 6+ years, but I digress.)

That leaves us with two terms to define. A Black Hat Marketer is someone who manipulates marketing techniques and strategies to under mine some else’s promotion or leverage another’s success for their own success. I refer to this person as a marketer and not entrepreneur as I do NOT consider unethical practices to be a part of entrepreneurship.

A White Hat Entrepreneur is someone who puts value and one’s prospective clients first. This person combines one’s passion and expertise and creates incredible value from the person’s unique perspective (UPP) and one’s system for solving defined problems (USP).

A Black Hat Virus is the worst kind of virus. It combines elements of truth with elements of dishonesty. It does what Mark Joyner discusses in his book, Simpleology, which is to get the market place to agree upon some basic truths, and then take them down a path that simply cannot be verified. (Note: I am not saying that Mark’s book has anything to do with black hat marketing!)

Here is the etymology of this type of black hat virus:

1. The Black Hat Marketer makes a decision to focus on ‘you’ and not the value that you can put into the market place. This is always a recipe for disaster and what causes me to laugh every time I see another ‘business-in-a-box’ product being advertised. Now, I am not saying that every marketer that creates these kind of products is a black hat marketer, but they are preying on the ‘quick rich’ mentality that always leads to disappointment to those who buy these products.

2. The Black Hat Marketer creates the virus by piggy-backing on the success of the White Hat Entrepreneur instead of creating one’s own case studies. This is one of the reasons that every program we have has been case-study driven. In fact, in our latest book, Author and Grow Rich (http://AuthorAndGrowRich.com), each chapter ends with a case study.

3. The Black Hat Marketer advertises to the media that this person and the White Hat Entrepreneur have a great partnership.

In the Recommendation Age, you must have social proof or you are dead in the water. Every media release that we produce today is case-study driven.

Again, when you come from the place of that sweet spot which is the intersection of your passion/expertise, you come from a unique place that incorporates your UPP, which is one of the keys to carrying a virus into the market.

I have referred to Seth Godin’s book, All Marketers Are Liars, several times (by the way, the thesis of the book is not that legitimate companies do anything unethical, but that they are masters at telling a story of what they do—critical in the Recommendation Age.) and the need to craft your UPP.

However, what is even more powerful is your ability to have others take this to the market for you.

4. The Black Hat Marketer Uses half-truths—the ultimate black hat deceptive technique—to promote the relationship to the world in the best form of social proof today—the power of promoting thru the power of the media.

We have all been conditioned to believe the words of an expert. It’s the strength of Milgram’s Law and the fact that if you do not have a book in The Recommendation Age, you are a nobody.

In fact, I challenge you to consider that last interview you watched on Larry King Live, CNN, or FOX News. Did you once question the words of the expert being interviewed? And did you realize that the person being interviewed was an author? (In fact, the expert must be an author in order to gain the media coverage in the first place.)

This is what makes this deceptive practice by this marketer who used me in a media release all the more deplorable!

5. The Black Hat Marketer fails to let the White Hat Entrepreneur know that there was a ‘supposed Joint Venture’ created between the two!

This is the ultimate form of deceptive Black hat Joint Venture partnership.

These are the five keys to creating a black hat virus.

I had no intention of blogging about this, but since it happened to me, I thought it a perfect venue to inform you to be careful.

This is definitely not over with.

By the way, I am planning on phoning this person and will inform everyone of the outcome.

And to end on a positive note, The ‘Trump The Donald’ Contest has taken off with a bang!

http://AuthorAndGrowRich.com

One thing I have always stated: When you build momentum in the market place, there will be all kinds of situations that come about to try and derail your focus.

Stay tuned as I keep you informed about the outcome of this form of black hat marketing and how this situation is resolved…

To Your Legacy!

Glenn :-)

A Shocking, Unethical Practice—With Media Releases!

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Let me share something with you that is perfectly unethical.

And it really ticks me off!

It has to do with unethical media release practices.

More and more so-called marketers (I check myself to actually say they are business people!) are doing this to me and it’s coming from marketers with big egos—actually, savvy marketers with unethical egos!

It really ticks me off and I am going to sound off on this, because I am growing sick and tired of this tactic.

In fact, this blog post is in perfect sync with the psychology of reframing and the reason that when you enter the ‘Trump The Donald’ Contest and purchase my new book, Author And Grow Rich, from http://AuthorAndGrowRich.com you must agree to the following: you must use the rights to the exclusive software, The Expert Positioner Software, in ethical ways.

But first let me share again this with you.

I have devoted this blog to helping you author your own book and build a multi million dollar business. I have shared, and will continue to share, with you real people using this system who are completing dominating their niche market today.

I have been discussing the importance of how to create your own idea virus and how to transmute that into a market place that is jaded, cynical and yes…over-communicated!

The best way to spread a virus is two fold: create a powerful enough USP (Unique Sales/Selling Proposition/Position—by the way, I could spend hours discussing the difference with you, and in another post I will go into how to powerfully differentiate yourself in the market) and position your UPP (your Unique Personal Proposition) or your million dollar story.

And it is in the context of your USP and your UPP that unethical marketers are literally ripping off the uneducated.

Here is the first way that these marketers rip off the unsuspecting:

The first is to sell something that is so revolutionary that even the marketer promoting this can’t fulfill the promise. The reason that many marketers do this—especially of the online persuasion—is that they realize that most people will never attempt to succeed with their system. They are marketing the way someone once told me… “Glenn, just sell the dream. Most people will never attempt anything!”

In fact, one very big online marketer once stated this to me when he was drunk at a private party I was invited to— “Glenn, it doesn’t matter what your content is—just sell the dream and build your list—that’s all the matters, Glenn!”

Yes, this ticks me off when so many marketers today are doing this. To combat this unethical marketing practice, we now offer a $2500 program for FREE today that in the past we sold. In other words we have moved the ‘free line’ to educate our ideal clients about what really makes us different. And we have offered the social proof. The social proof comes in the form of the hundreds and hundreds of case-studies that we use to substantiate what we do…because what we do, know one else can do today.

(By the way, our expertise is uniquely defined as a rapid authoring and business development program focusing on teaching the psychology of reframing and the science of pedagogy. And we do this from a teaching/learning perspective, of course!…since I was once a teacher and Vice Principal.)

And that brings me to the second unethical practice that savvy marketers rely on to trick people into buying their products and/or services. And the reason for this blog post.

These ‘wolves in sheep’s clothing’ marketers use false stories.

That brings me to this big name marketer who has done this again to me. I recently did a search and saw a media release with my name in it and this guy claiming to work with me. Not only did this person not inform me of our ‘apparent’ joint venture, but he got important facts incorrect about my business.

Moreover, I was at a recent Internet conference where I saw another marketer use my success story to his credit—when this person had absolutely no input into my life or my business. There is was—my success story to his credit on the back of his CDs and other marketing material!

These are the two most seductive ways that online marketers rip off innocent people by fooling—deceitfully tricking them—into believing something that is simply a lie.

It is the ultimate in unethical reframing.

And yes, it ticks me off.

What would you do in the instance that brought about today’s blog post? (The unethical media release marketing practice?) I am interested in what you have to say about this. Please comment below with your ideas and suggestions.

And of course, don’t forget to enter the ‘Trump The Donald’ Contest at http://AuthorAndGrowRich.com.

In the next post I will share with you how I intend to fight back.

Stay tuned.

To Your Legacy.

Glenn :-)

A Very Personal Conversation—Why Create A Contest Of This Magnitude?

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

Why Would I Create A Contest Of This Magnitude where you get to compete in the ‘Trump The Donald’ Contest.

Great question.

Not only will I tell you, but I will show you the power of how to create an idea virus.

Let me first share with you the first of three significant conversations I had with mentors who were all administrators when I was a young Vice Principal.

In fact, it was not long ago I was an elementary school Vice Principal—in fact, four years ago, I was finishing up my last year.

I am going to share the first conversation with you today and save the other two for later posts. This first discussion left a lasting impression on me and relates directly to why I would put everything on the line with the ‘Trump The Donald’ Contest.

Go back with me nine years ago. I was a first year administrator. At that time I was the youngest Vice Principal with our school board and everyone had me fast tracking the administration route to become Superintendent and Director of Education. I had not met Robert Kiyosaki at this point and I certainly had no idea of his Rich Dad Poor Dad concept, and how closely I resembled his Poor Dad!

The conversation happened at my first meeting with a Principal who I was meeting for supper after a frenetic day at school. Bob was his name (and still is! :-)) and he was also a mentor to me. We met at a small restaurant in Corunna, Ontario, Canada, a small town just outside of Sarnia. We had just ordered and our waitress had no sooner poured us a cup of coffee each when Bob put his head down and ran his hands over his hair from the front to the back. It was the kind of self reflective gesture that one makes when one is pondering something deep and profound.

Bob looked at me with piercing eyes and said this to me. It stands out so poignantly, I can almost recite this part of our conversation word-for-word.

“Glenn, I don’t know how you are going to keep your morals by being in administration for all the years that you have before you. I’ve only got five more years to go before I retire, and this job is killing me!”

This was the first time anyone was really frank and open with me about the long-term effects of my decision to advance myself in education.

Bob went on to say, “Glenn, this job changes you. It is so political. The superintendents have their own agenda; parents have their own agenda; the trustees have their own agenda. Everyone has their own agenda and as a principal you are always caught in the middle. Always! Glenn, this job is one where you are constantly dodging landmines…and the problem is, you never know where they are going to explode next.”

I remember this as if we had the discussion yesterday and now it has been nine years ago almost to the day!

It was the first time that I was confronted with the realization that this job was so political. It was the first time that I really realized that all my years of education…all my training to move to the highest level of education, might be all for naught.

Bob and I had our meal and our conversation ended….but the reality of the implications of what I was deciding for my life was confronted head on. Bob and I would go on to become great friends and I would go on to retire out of education before him!

That leaves me with the first point I want to make.

It is crucial that all of us have a wake-up call regarding the decision that we are making for our lives.

As I grew up and took numerous jobs while in school, I was constantly impressed with the fact that most people never tried to play big. It seemed they were more interested in playing to the lowest common denominator. You know the comment that speaks to this…I have heard so many times… “I can’t believe they pay me this to do this!”

Now I can say this today, but it is in a totally different context when I normally hear this stated. It usually is in the context of a job and what one has to do NOT to get fired. This comment speaks to someone who is not inspired and has no intention of playing big in life.

The problem was I was not a normal employee. I had strong ambitions. It was the reason I had earned four degrees and was planning to being a PhD program.

It would turn out that I was to spend another five years as a Vice Principal before I left my job setting two Internet records four years ago.

What I want to share with you today is that I thank God for Bob and for his honesty with me—challenging me to think thru the implications of my choices.

And I want to inspire each of you who have strong ambitions to go for them. That’s why I created an authoring program that has been recognized by Adobe Corp., the world’s first print-on-demand company, BookSurge, consultants to two U.S. Presidents and thousands of clients who have been impacted by this program.

And with the terrible economic downturn that currently faces North America…as I hear about people losing their houses, losing their jobs etc. I remember all too well the difficult financial times I put my family through to go after my legacy, my Big Dream.

As I like to tell people, it was not that long ago that I was going backwards faster than the Boston Celtics were last year, until they made some critical decisions about their future and how to vault themselves forward. One look at the standings today among NBA teams and you will realize how powerful key decisions can be!

As I way of inspiring you to play at the highest level possible, I have combined the release of my new book, Author And Grow Rich: How To Write A Money-Making Book In ONLY 12 Hours with a contest to inspire you to really go for it. You have an opportunity to challenge Donald Trump in our ‘Trump The Donald’ Contest.

I want to inspire you to become the person you must become so that you can do the things you want to do and have the things that you want to have.

I challenge you to discover the power of the AuthorAndGrowRich.com system to achieve all your goals. The system is set up to confront your own reality just like Bob did with me nine years ago as a first year Vice Principal.

This system will help you set powerful goals in tune with a new paradigm about what is possible for you.

This system will showcase to you how to leave your legacy and live it now.

And to inspire you to begin now, I have created the perfect contest to feature you and you idea to millions of people.

In the coming days you will meet the select group of economists and business people who will be a part of this contest judging your submission.

Don’t worry if you don’t think you have no time.

Don’t worry if you think you can’t write.

Don’t worry if you flunked high school English.

Don’t worry if you are a struggling entrepreneur.

Don’t worry if you are a stay-at-home parent.

Don’t worry if you are a person who is struggling with issues around significance.

(For I was all of these above descriptors and much more at one point in my own life—that’s why I created this contest with a vehicle to help you compete at the highest level with the ‘Trump The Donald’ Contest.)

Do worry if you have the mentality of “I can’t believe they are paying to do this.” If this has been your outlook, I challenge you to a reality check with the AuthorAndGrowRich.com system.

Jump on this opportunity to compete against Donald Trump and win one of the hundreds of prizes we have for you.

But the greatest prize I realized, which began with my conversation with Bob, was to not only play at the highest level possible, but to play smart and play within in a system that rewards excellence—not ‘the lowest denominator’.

Get the AuthorAndGrowRich.com system—it’s your answer to playing life to its fullest…as you sell your writing!

(By the way, Author And Grow Rich is #4 for home-based business books and we have not even begun a campaign. Thank you to all of you who have purchased this book!)

How To Reframe An Idea Into Something Worthy Of An Idea Virus

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

How To Create A Winning Idea So That You Can Sell Your Writing–

In a day and age of information overload you are not paid to deliver content. Your book puts content in the context of your expert guidance. This is an important distinction and one that bears some time to discuss.

Content is merely that…information devoid of context, floating around in nothing. And when we speak of context, we are speaking of your target audience’s needs and wants. You need to be able to feel their pain and show your intended audience that you understand what they are going through.

The ideas you create should all be involved in solving your target market’s problems. To bring this home on how this should creation of your book, the late and great G.K. Chesterton summarizes the importance of analyzing problems first when he stated that the focus should not be on your book, but on understanding and magnifying your target market’s problems first.

Here is one way to create winning ideas or reframe an idea into something worthy of an Idea Virus (I will share with you other ways in later posts, but each way involves the three key principles as presented below): Complete a five minute exercise where you list as many ideas that are related to what you want to do. The key is to write everything down and do not pre-judge anything. This is the creative phase and you want to write as quickly as you can. Do not reflect at all on your ideas. The personal reflection comes in the next phase.

The key to brainstorming and recording all your ideas is that it allows your subconscious to begin to find relationships among your ideas. There are three relationships that your mind will look at when analyzing your ideas. I call this the ‘Triad Of Analysis’. The great philosopher Socrates first espoused this concept over 2300 years ago. It involves your mind analyzing a) the similarity of your ideas (What are your ideas like?); b) The contiguity of your ideas (How are your ideas related to each other?); and c) the contrasting nature of your ideas (How are your ideas different?).

The key with this process is to use it actively after listing ideas involving the contiguity and contrasting aspects of your ideas. The real genius with this system is that you activate your subconscious minds with this writing exercise (writing is the doing part of thinking) to find answers pertaining to the similarities of your ideas. What you have really done is use the science of reframing at a subconscious level to help you long after consciously engaging your mind with this exercise to help you find some powerful associations.

Remember what Dennis Waitley has to say about what you are paid to do in the new era in which we live, The Recommendation Age. “If you are an entrepreneur or knowledge worker, and as an author you definitely fit this description. Your success depends on how well you think. You are not paid to collect, sort, store, or retrieve information, although you may do all of these things. You are paid to interpret that information and to create and implement new ideas.”

Train your conscious mind to use the ‘Triad Of Analysis’ when creating and implementing new ideas. By using this system, you will leverage your subconscious mind to be on the look out for ideas that complement and raise awareness about ways to create solutions to your target market’s problems as you write your own book and create derivative products.

In my next post I will continue to provide you powerful writing tips to help you create your own system of self reflection. Remember, your success to do what Denis Waitley states above, is your ability to create a system of self reflection.
